Illustrative cut-crystal star award in warm light

A successful launch, a stronger team or a service that changes someone’s experience can all represent achievement. The most compelling stories explain why the work mattered and what changed because of it.

Start with the need

Before describing the result, explain the problem. Who needed something to improve? What stood in the way? A clear starting point helps readers understand the scale of the contribution without relying on grand language.

Show the difference

Choose a few examples that make the outcome tangible. Depending on the work, that might be a better customer experience, a practical innovation, a more reliable service or an opportunity created for others. Use figures when they are relevant and verifiable, and explain the period and context behind them.

Make room for the people

Leadership is visible in decisions and actions. Describe what the individual or organisation contributed, while acknowledging colleagues and partners. A precise account of shared work is more convincing than claiming every success for one person.

Consider what lasts

A milestone is a useful beginning. Ask whether it led to a lasting improvement: a skill passed on, a process that others can use, a relationship strengthened or a higher standard maintained. The answer can reveal the wider value of an achievement.

Tell the story plainly

Use a simple sequence: the challenge, the action and the outcome. Check dates, figures and permissions before sharing supporting material. Keep confidential information out of public examples, and distinguish an ambition from a result already achieved.

These are prompts for reflecting on a contribution across any industry. They are not the programme’s official judging criteria; consult the published requirements for your chosen award when available.
